The requirements for waterproof materials vary in different parts of the building. Each material has its own strengths and weaknesses, and one material cannot dominate the world. There is no material that can be used in any place. Various materials can only complement each other, not be replaced, and each has its own place to play.

Roof waterproofing and basement waterproofing require different material properties, and bathroom waterproofing and wall waterproofing are even more different. Sloping roofs and complex shaped roofs are also different, and material selection should be carefully considered.

Roof waterproof layer

The waterproof layer of the roof is exposed to nature, exposed to hot sunlight, strong winds, erosion from rain and snow, temperature torment from extreme cold and heat, and repeated expansion and contraction due to temperature differences between day and night. Without excellent material properties and good protective measures, it is difficult to achieve the required durability.

Therefore, waterproof materials with high tensile strength, high elongation, and good aging resistance should be selected. Such as polyester tire polymer modified asphalt coil, EPDM rubber coil, P-type polyvinyl chloride coil (welded joint), and single component polyurethane coating (with protective layer). 

Wall waterproofing 

Why do walls leak? The reason is that the current walls are too thin, mostly made of lightweight masonry blocks, with a large number of internal and external joints. In addition, the joints between door and window frames and walls are not tightly sealed, and rainwater seeps into the joints. Wall waterproofing cannot use rolls, only coatings, and is combined with exterior decoration materials. Only sealant can solve the problem of window frame installation joints.

Underground building waterproofing 

The underground waterproof layer is immersed in water or very humid soil for many years, and the waterproof material must have good water resistance. Inner Mongolia coatings should not be made from perishable substrates, and the bottom waterproof layer should be made of thick waterproof materials with certain resistance to punctures. 

Good stacking thickness of 6mm~8mm. If synthetic polymer rolls are selected, it is most suitable to heat weld the joints. For those who use adhesive to join seams, the adhesive should have excellent water resistance, otherwise even the best rolls cannot be selected. Caution should be exercised when using waterproof coatings. When used alone, the main thickness should be 2.5mm, and when combined with the coil, the thickness should also be 2mm. 

bathroom waterproofing

There are three characteristics of bathroom waterproofing. Firstly, it is not affected by the natural climate, with minimal temperature changes and low requirements for material elongation; Secondly, it has a small area, multiple internal and external corners, and many pipes passing through the floor slab; The third is to stick ceramic tiles on the waterproof layer of the wall, which have good affinity with the adhesive.

Based on the above three characteristics, coil materials cannot be used. Only manufacturers of interior and exterior wall coatings are suitable, and cement-based acrylic coatings are the most suitable for firmly adhering ceramic tiles on them. Non environmentally friendly coatings often have irritating odors due to harmful substances such as VOCs and formaldehyde exceeding the standard. Smelling the coating for a pungent odor may not necessarily cause toxic coatings to have odors, but manufacturers of interior and exterior wall coatings with odors must have problems. Consumers need to be cautious when purchasing. Of course, don't buy products that smell good. Generally speaking, essence is added to this kind of coating. The additive itself is a chemical product, which is difficult to ensure environmental protection.

Carefully review the quality inspection report of the product, especially paying attention to the total organic volatile content (VOC) of the coating. Organic volatile compounds pose great harm to both our living environment and ourselves. Toluene, xylene, butanone, acetate, etc. are all restricted, and we should try to minimize the amount of these solvents used.

Waterproofing of overpasses
