 What are the types of primers used in construction?

Transparent primer, white primer, alkali resistant primer, sealing primer, penetrating primer, etc. When painting the wall, if the primer is not applied, or if the primer is applied less or unevenly, then when painting the topcoat, it may encounter the wall absorbing paint too quickly and too much, and the amount of topcoat cannot be applied to the predetermined area; Shortly after painting, various problems such as discoloration, paint film peeling, clumping, mold spots, etc. may occur. This is because both new and old walls in the living room will suffer from alkalization due to excessive moisture, especially in humid environments, which is the fundamental reason affecting the quality of the paint surface. Is it unnecessary to apply primer when the quality of the topcoat is good?

It's not like that, the reason is that the topcoat and primer have different functions. Primer has multiple functions such as sealing the wall base, improving the adhesion and fullness of the topcoat; The topcoat is mainly used for decoration and protection, making the surface more shiny, scratch resistant, wear-resistant, with good hand feel, aging resistance, yellowing resistance, etc.

Generally speaking, good topcoats come with a matching primer, indicating the manufacturer's emphasis on the role of the primer. Therefore, no matter how good the quality of the topcoat you purchase is, it is recommended that you do not skip the step of applying primer.

Construction of water-based and solvent based exterior wall primer:

Construction of water-based primer: First, dilute with water according to the dilution ratio specified in the product manual, stir evenly, and then use a roller to apply the primer; It is necessary to control the temperature and humidity during construction as much as possible. Construction is generally not suitable when the temperature is below 5 ℃ or the relative humidity is above 85%.

In theory, transparent primers generally do not contain pigments, have higher density, and have better sealing performance than white primers. But in practical engineering, white alkali resistant primer often has good sealing performance, which is precisely because of its high paint film thickness. For transparent primer, the dilution ratio cannot be arbitrarily increased to increase the construction area, otherwise the paint film will be too thin and cannot achieve the required sealing effect.

Construction of solvent based primer: Single component solvent based transparent primer can be applied by spraying or roller coating methods. Strictly follow the coating rate of the interior and exterior wall paint manufacturers, and do not apply too thick or too thin.
